Nature Preserve Park

Formerly an integral part of the greater Everglades ecosystem, the seven acre FIU Preserve was at the eastern boundary of the fabled “river of grass.” A destination for local wildlife as well as for education, leisure and recreation within the FIU campus, the Preserve studied design solutions that would help learn about the ecology and vegetation of the area as well as offer an

important sanctuary to the university community. Proposals focused on theThe Botanical Garden, owned by the City of San Francisco, sought a design solution that effectively communicated the historical significance of Gondwana in relation to the evolution and current horticultural communities of the Southern Hemisphere.
